You absolutely have to be the smartest character! But you have to have an area of specialty where you know everything in a topic you're passionate about if you're the MC, it absolutely cannot be something you need to know in order to stop the villain. If you're just a minor character, it doesn't matter.
If you're the protagonist there's always something you don't know about strangely enough that the villain does know. Which means you have to have a friend who knows about it cause how else are you going to stop the villain. If you're the side character, you have to know everything so that the protagonist doesn’t fail.
You have to wear glasses. Spectacles or big plastic ones that are too big for your face would be preferable. You need to look very unattractive with acne, tons of quirks and bonus if you always wear vests along with those baggy pants.
You have to get picked on throughout the book or series but it doesn't seem to bother you. You just embrace your geekiness.
You only have 1 or 2 friends throughout the book or series. 1 will definitely be your love interest, and bonus if it's the boy or girl version of you, if you're the protagonist and the other will most likely be geeky like you.
