The relatable female protagonist. Are there even any of those?

I guess there are! Allie Lynn is sharing this stereotype with us today.

Five Steps to Making a Genuine Female Protagonist that Readers Will Actually Love

And no, I’m not being sarcastic this time.

  1. Make her empathetic. Give the girl faults. Give her a caring heart. Don’t make her cold, unless she’ll change by the end in a genuine way.

  2. Don’t make her good at everything. The clumsy girls are great too.

  3. Give her pride in being a girl. It’s not shameful to do that.

  4. Have her truly struggle in her character arc.

  5. Make her relatable. Break her heart. Heal it. Give her a shoulder to cry on. Give her a friend. Give her some girlfriends to hang out with when life gets too hard. Make it a rough journey, but don’t forget the healing.

Allie Lynn is a passionate and talented writer who first and foremost desires to honor God with her writing. She has been passionate about “all things horses” from a very young age, which greatly influences her work. Her desire is to produce equine-based fiction that is inspiring and entertaining without compromising her faith. When she is not diving into her fictional world, she is writing articles and short stories for magazines and websites. You can follow Allie Lynn’s work at EquineontheMind.com.
