Hi everyone! Cari here. As you already know, I'm a theater kid. Besides acting, I enjoy watching musicals. So, after years of study (slight exaggeration), I've managed to compile the rules for a stereotypical musical! Enjoy!

Your opening number has to hit HARD! Like, really hard.
The lead cannot dance. This is an unspoken rule when casting.
There has to be that big belt-y solo song where the lead pours out their feelings to the audience. This song is usually very tragic. However, there can be exceptions.
Male lead has to be very handsome and have millions of fangirls.
Any character above the age of 13 is automatically played by a thirty-something-year-old. Teens playing teens? UNHEARD OF!
Kids are usually played by kids. Except when they’re not.
The cast is a bunch of dorks. Especially the leads.
There is ALWAYS a big duet between the male and female leads.
Someone will most likely die in Act II.

Well, that's my take! For those musical theater fans in the comments, what's your favorite show?
My favorite show currently is Pilgrim, but I do love sitting down and watching either Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang or The Sound of Music!!!
Also, I love how every single one of these relate to the musical I am in this year.
My favorite shows are...Newsies, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, White Christmas, and The Little Mermaid. These are also the only ones of seen. The soundtracks for The Lightning Theif, Anastasia, and Tuck Everlasting are all really good, though. These rules seem to apply. XD
