Rules for Writing the Mentor

Hello again! Remember the hero Haniah wrote about way back in the first post? Well, today, I have a post for you called…

Rules for Writing the Mentor by Kinsey Holt!

***

Five Rules for Being a Mentor! (I’m just going to give this thing a try)

1: You’re going to die. It’s inevitable. No matter how endearing you are.

2: You would totally solve all the MC’s problems for him or her — thus why you have to die.

3: You’re likely an old man, and you probably have a beard too.

4: You have pithy quotes that practically sum up the theme.

5: The MC doesn’t listen to you very well, and he probably has something to do with your aforementioned death, ie killing you himself or causing you to have to sacrifice yourself for him.

Kinsey Holt is a teenage aspiring author who writes clean, speculative fiction novels for middle grade and YA. When not writing, she can be found with her nose in a book, playing movie themes on the piano, or asking strangers if she can pet their dog. She writes to bring hope and humor to a broken world.

Ahh lovely. You see this mentor in lots of superhero movies, but I think of Star Wars. Didn’t Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker, and others?

Who is your favorite fictitious mentor, and why?

Dumbledore in Harry Potter is one of my favorite examples of a mentor!

I’ve never heard of that series! We’ll have to look into it.
