Rules for Writing the Bard

I just thought of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling. Have you read that?

I’m pretty sure that’s a different kind of bard…

Rules for Writing the Bard by Ava Murbarger

Five Steps to being the Bard

  1. You’re a smooth talker and people want to do stuff for you.

  2. You almost definitely flirt with half the people you come across, and are witty on the borderline of sarcasm. That, or you’ve taken the dive over the edge and are drowning in it.

  3. You’re socially gifted and can easily carry on a conversation while skillfully strumming on whatever instrument you have. You can think of words to a song in a crazy short amount of time.

  4. You’re either funny and lighthearted all the time, or you’re always brooding. Or you confuse the other characters by suddenly switching from one to the other.

  5. Your voice never cracks, and you can get away with almost anything. You also enjoy singing and playing through a battle and any other kind of conflict, simultaneously avoiding it and rallying the other characters and spurring them to victory. BONUS- You are a master of emotion, and always know the right thing to say.

You’re fun to read and to write! Good job, and keep on playing!

Ava Murbarger is an aspiring Christian author who enjoys writing in a range of genres- from fantasy, to sci-fi, to contemporary- and loves stories with themes that ring true, even if they aren’t played out in a real setting. She lives in southeastern Illinois, in a town doing its best to become a city. When she’s not thinking up new stories to tell or mapping out strange worlds, she enjoys reading, worshipping on her guitar, and going to camp each summer. I also thought of King Alfred in Amy Ullrich’s book, Among the Great. If you haven’t read that yet, I urge you to go and purchase it!
