Interview with Amy Ullrich

It’s me, Erin, and I have for you today an interview with Amy Ullrich. I am on Amy’s street team for her book, Among the Great!

***

Q: Hi, Amy! When did you first know that you loved writing, and what inspired it?

A: It’s hard to say exactly when I first realized how much I loved writing. I started writing for fun when I was six years old. By the time I was thirteen, I knew I wanted to be an author. I think what inspired me was my love for a good story, and also the way writing enabled me to enter into worlds that I couldn’t physically go to.

Q: That’s incredible! Where did you get the idea for Among the Great? What is it about? When will it be published?

A: It all began when I discovered that Alfred the Great was a writer as well as a king! The more I delved into his life, the more intrigued I became by his story and so I decided to write a novel set during his reign. Among the Great is about a brother and sister who find their world turned upside down when their father is murdered. Separated from one another and surrounded by the turmoil of their times, Edwin and Edith must learn to discern truth from falsehood, friend from for, or be swept away on a tide of treachery… The official release date is on October 4th, but my email subscribers may have a chance to access the ebook before then.

Q: You mentioned email subscribers. What is the link to your email list and website? What sort of things do you write about on them?

A: You can sign up for my email newsletter through my website: https://amyullrich.com. On my website you can find out all sorts about me and my writing, and you can also access my blog where I share gems from history. My newsletter is a monthly newsletter that includes anecdotes from history, information about special deals and opportunities, updates about my books, and sometimes a book recommendation or two.

Q: Sounds great! I’ll definitely be looking into that. What’s one piece of advice you have for young authors?

A: You’ve probably heard this a million times but it’s simple advice that bears repeating: Write what you know! Of course, if you write sci-fi or fantasy you can’t really “know” (i.e. experience) your world, but you can “know” your story’s theme. So, when deciding on a theme, choose something that resonates with you, something that you’ve had experience with*.* If your theme doesn’t resonate with you, it probably won’t resonate with your readers.

That is such a poignant piece of advice, is it not? Launch date is October 4th. If you want to support her, definitely look into ordering her book!
