A Clear-Cut Picture

Hey, everyone! Today, I (Erin) have a review for a book by a fellow young author, Annabelle Batie!

...

“For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10, HCSB). The Lord has a purpose for us, a reason to be alive. In Identity, book one of the Daughters of the Sea series, this theme is delved into. Young writer and debut novelist Annabelle Batie wrote this book, a Christian fantasy. Her love of the Lord and mermaids influenced her story, leading to the independent publication of Identity. Although Batie is a teenager herself, she shares about teenage drama, friendship, family, and love in a wholesome way, making the story perfect for book lovers of all ages.

Identity opens with a girl named Maria. As an orphan, she believes she is hopeless, that her identity will always be so. But when she turns sixteen, something changes. She discovers that she can become a mermaid when immersed in water. When her new friend Alex, a merman, takes her under the sea, Maria discovers a whole new world — a world she had never once believed could possibly be real.

But this world is wreaked with chaos. Reefinia and Roarien are enemies, so when Maria gets kidnapped by the Roariens — and, consequently, interrogated by their king — of course she does all she can to escape and get back to Reefinia.

When she gets back to Reefinia, she meets another mermaid, Grace. This mermaid looks exactly like Maria. Who exactly are these girls? Why are they there? What is their purpose in having met?

Identity is a captivating novel, a delight for all ages. The fact that Batie goes into our identity as followers of Christ only adds to the book’s wonder. Readers of all ages will enjoy this book, a clear-cut picture of what our identity once was and what our identity should be in Christ.
